The Born Again Christians have flooded into the Tea party and the Republican Party like locusts claiming to be under the influence of God.

Is this what their God wants them to do? Hold up financial assistance for two weeks from the victims of Joplin, Missouri disastrous tornado for POLITICAL ADVANTAGE?

Religious Hypocrite the world over are the same - Manipulating Religion for their own Agenda.

No Entitlements! They must have done something wrong and God punished them! Let'em fend for themselves! Even the pets and children! God's justice was visited upon Joplin! /s

Oh, wait, it's more important to gut civil rights, cut teachers' pensions, deny same-sex marriage, broadcast the latest Obama is/isn't [insert TFH delusion here] and where's his proof he isn't/is?, or kill the closest thing to health care that actually has made it into law. Natural disasters are of little moment compared to that agenda. (What jobs?)

PigeonReport:

#1.

If they were truly Born Again Christians, they would not hold up funding for their political gains. We born again Christians are reborn of the Holy Spirit, not of the flesh. We have become a new creation in Christ. One who does not covet the things of the flesh or the political gains of this world- if they are living in Him- they answer to Him not to the money, power, sex, drugs, alcohol or other trappings of worldly success.

So quite obviously by their fruits they have shown themselves to be liars. That would be those who are the children of the devil, not of Christ.

I am born again, and I hold no unity with those who still worship the things of this world. I help all those I am able to, whether they be Christian or not. For I am not God, nor do I have His foresight to know that I am helping one who will come to Christ later or not.

I trust in Him to do His work, we are to do ours as He commands us to do.

So to make it short and sweet, those who would hold people hostage for the political gain are in no means acting in a manner of Christ.

Pigeon,

I don't have enough disgust left in me for these people. I've been watching what they're doing since the 2010 elections, and it's enough to make me regret that I ever enlisted to serve this country.

It isn't a game. It really isn't.

And as much as I'm disgusted with these antics, I'm even more disgusted by the people that keep returning them to office - because abortion and Intelligent Design are more important than helping our poor or retaining our middle class.

Well before passing any aid, they do have to figure out how to funnel more money into their own pockets first. A little to Joplin, a lot in their bank accounts. That';s generally how it works in our corrupt and thieving government.

Excellent posts in response to a set of circumstances that only serves to underscore, once again, what has already become painfully obvious: the prevailing attitude of many who serve in "our" Do-Nothing United States Congress is "God Bless America, and YOU are on your own."

For those among the population who are conscious at all, much less sufficiently conscious to have an awareness of the meaning of the term "collective memory," there is a rapidly developing trend to be seen. The once vivid but now, for many, fleeting images of [primarily African-American] citizens standing on rooftops and highway overpasses in Louisiana for days on end in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, waving and holding up signs that said "HELP US!" and "WATER" — a national disgrace — were often attributed directly to overt racism. The government response to crowd control and the movement of displaced populations to the Superdome in New Orleans was harsh, inhumane, and often downright brutal.

Now we know better. Our government's inaction is by no means exclusively racial in nature: their consciousness is, first and foremost, class consciousness. American citizens of all races, if they are not members of the privileged few, are basically on their own.

The irony is that, as I now read and hear so often, Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush would today be labeled as tax-and-spend liberals of the worst kind. The prevailing GOP attitude now seems to be one of "If we can't return to the days of yesteryear, it's time for trench warfare," or, as Archie Bunker used to say, "If you don't like it, lump it / take it down the road, and dump it."

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days.

From the 'All in the Family' theme song, "Those Were The Days"

Thanks. I just got back from gathering with those whom my wife and I gather with to worship and honor the Lord.

I might be considered left of center today. Back in the day I was considered right of center. LOL

Anyway, to get to the point. Man is not put here to gain as much wealth, power, control, ... as he can. We were put here to serve God and His way. To help those He says to help, to love those others find unlovable, and to honor Him above all else. In other words to empty ourselves of our own desires and become what He makes us into, to do His will, so He can do His work through us.

It really is a joy, though sometimes it is hard on the flesh and emotions. :~)) :~))

Mal It is understandable that some people don't see the services provided immediately by the government that some affected individuals might not be aware of just as it is understandable cons will never take a brea from bashing American government, no matter how baseless it may be...

Even FEMA, the most common target for critics, got mostly favorable reviews from public officials who were interviewed.
Pleasant Grove Mayor Jerry Brasseale, whose city lost about a quarter of its houses in the April 27 tornado, said he has been pleased with the level of help pouring into Pleasant Grove from FEMA, the state EMA and Jefferson County's EMA. "They've all done a tremendous job," he said.
Said Birmingham Mayor William Bell: "The state and federal response to Birmingham has been very supportive so far."

An example that has worked to the state's benefit, said Congressman Brooks, is the decision that the federal government would pick up 90 percent of the debris removal costs in some parts of Alabama, rather than the typical 75 percent. "It could have done a lot more damage to state and local budgets if FEMA had not made an exception," Brooks said.
Bentley further eased the load on local governments by saying the state would cover the local match for the first 30 days of debris removal. "I'm trying to keep down their anxiety," he said.
While local public officials recognize the long-term work of rebuilding could present more complicated challenges, Tuscaloosa County EMA Director David Hartin is convinced that, in the end, the approaches being developed in this recovery will become "a model for the future."

Though I despise what they do. I still pray for God to bring them to Him and have mercy, as He has had mercy for me. For I was once as they are, blind and proud of my fleshly deeds. Not truly aware of just how blind or wrong I was, I was headed to the same place they will go unless they repent.

That is not something I take pleasure in. I take comfort in knowing that God is able to love even the unlovables and bring them back from the death they so proudly walk in.

To me it is a like a baby who has to be trained not to dirty their diapers. You work with them and teach them that the dirty diapers are not something that they want to continue to live in. If after they have been trained, they continue to dirty their diapers they have a problem. There comes a time when one realize that the person does not care whether they live in filth or not. So one does not associate with them, but prays for their growth so they will stop being so unacceptable.

That is the way I see those who continue to claim a faith they don't have. Because they never grow in it, they are constantly depending upon someone to change them and clean them up.

I remember reading somewhere, Joplin is a Teaparty/Conservative place! Oh, the Irony of LOVING ONES ENEMY, the aforementioned! I hope these natural disasters are opening some people's eyes relative to the Propagandized view that 'YOUR GOVERMENT IS YOUR ENEMY? In teabagger talk, shut er down...

From Gov Perry in Texas, to the victims of tornados and flooding throughout the land, the cry is; where is the goverment! Seems goverment handouts are bad, only when someone else is getting them!

I say to our brethrens, and fellow Americans, your goverment IS NOT your enemy, And it should absolutely be there for you in time of need; WITH NO STRINGS ATTATCHED! And I hope the people of Joplin and elsewhere, remember how their 'beloved' GOP treated them, in their time of need...and vote them out of office ASAP!!!

heartless repugNUTS..."Still, Congress seems divided over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) demand that any aid be “offset” by cuts to other programs. Democrats have argued that emergency aid is, by its very nature, unplanned and therefore it should not have to be offset. Some have also accused Cantor of being callous in his demands. The Democrats even have support from some conservatives like Haley Barbour, who said any disaster relief should not have to be paid for with offsetting spending cuts.

At least this is progressing much faster than the 9/11 First Responders medical care assistance. I truly do not see how it is a virtue to restrict or delay assistance to Americans in need. Natural Disasters, 9/11 First Responders, and the Unemployed, they are all fellow Americans, these are things in my view should all be fast tracked items. But alas we are in a time when we have to debate the value of assisting our neighbors.

Outrageous, the GOP and far right not only have cost Americans jobs by attempting to break unions, which ended up cutting teachers, nurses, police and firefighters jobs, but they want no help or aid to go for any disaster stricken community unless a budget concession is made first letting the people suffer.

What I don't understand is why hasn't the GOP and the GOP "tea party" offered sacrifices or concessions of their own?

When looking at both state and federal budgets why are only programs for the people being cut?

I have seen past bills that are "pork barrel" bills which have unbelievable waste in them only because certain politicians, mostly GOP politicians, want to get funding for a lobbyist or special pet project and none of the GOP has offered up budget cuts on their previous or current "pork barrel" projects.

Instead of the GOP or the GOP "tea party" offering to give up their own free government run healthcare or give up their specially funded "pork barrel" projects they just go after the middle class or anyone in this country who is already down.

I don't think the GOP and the GOP "tea party" philosophy of "kick 'em while their down" will be a good strategy come election time.

The GOP has already kicked American workers for unemployment through no fault of their own, kicked unions who had the courage to march on Wall Street instead of the "tea party", kicked American workers by supporting Corporations posting huge profits without job creation and kicked any disadvantaged group from nursing homes to disaster relief. Enough! I voters "kick back" at the voting booth.

This is pretty bad, even for the right wing. No class, no humanity. In what environment would a person grow up in to have so little compassion for others? This is not Christian or even just common decency. What church condones this crap?

Many churches would condone this, saying charity is when people help, not the federal government. I wish i didnt understand the thinking of those hate mongers, but i have some in my family.

I do not believe that Jesus would think letting people suffer is a the right thing to do. We are their neighbors and it is our money that goes to our government. I don't believe that this is a honorable decision for one minute. It is based in more greed and in pretending to want to balance a budget while still giving breaks to the wealthy. Where was all this righteousness while the Bush-Chaney greedy taker years were going on? We just need to vote the bastards out.

This is not your father's GOP. This is something out of the Middle East.

Time to step up and shout in the House. Good for those who seed these articles.

And whenever a Fox news watcher tells you, that Obama failed Joplin, you direct them to the truth. The President can not touch any Budget funds, it is up to the Congress, and since the House is made up of Tparty GOPers, they are holding it up.

People, have you ever seen such rubbish in our government, ever?

Bubba, Obama does not give out budget funds. That is not in his job description. Read my post #13.1 above.

cowboygrandpa, I am a Christian too. Are you praying that God takes revenge, and soon? I believe that we will "be taken" before the real destruction begins. I am wondering if that will be in our lifetime, cause our country and its GOP leadership is looking and sounding more evil. I wonder how those who will have to remain here will stay faithful. I know, God is in control, but still, as the ancient prophets of Israel lamented to God, why are the evil prospering?

Why God? Why is this brand of political agenda, that is so against you, prevailing in this country. God bring help to Joplin, and break the political posturing in our nation. Crush the strong who want to break the weak in spirit. In Your name we pray this Jesus. Amen. For Your Glory!

Bubba, whenever I see a person saying Texas did not get money for the fires, I know that they don't watch or read any news except Fox. The Houston Chronicle, among many Texas papers, explained that Texas has received over 25 grants since the fires started last fall that has paid more than 75% of the direct costs of the fires.

Federal firefighters have been deployed and the fire crews are using federal helicopters and other federal equipment. Thr total aid is a higher percentage of assistance than states get when a disaster area is certified and FEMA assists. because so few individuals have been affected, there is not the need for massive shelters and other rebuilding aid. Perry used the stunt as a diversion because Texas has proved that the policies of the far right do not work.

It was reported that over 80% of the property is covered by insurance, most of it federally subsidized crop insurance. My lake cabin northwest of Fort Worth was destroyed, and I do not want a dime of federal help, especially when there may not be enough for people in real need that Republicans are toying with and taunting.

I don't get Fox, I can't afford cable. I did hear my Senators Hutchison, Cornyn and governor Perry blasting Mr Obama over his response to the Texas wildfires. Mr Obama doesn't like Texas much and the feeling is mutual. When Obama came down to El Paso looking for money he was booed by Hispanics. Seems he hasn't done anything on immigration that he promised his first year in office.

Republicans deny global climate change and the increased atmospheric volatility that increasing CO2 creates.

Then they deny aid to those affected by their disastrous policies.

Lie Lie Deny Deny Oppress Oppress. That's the Republican Party Platform and they're sticking to it!

Republicans today wouldn't LIKE IKE one bit!

President Eisenhower maintained a 90% top tax rate, promoted universal health care and massive government infrastructure spending.

Today's Bigot Republicans won't even maintain the infrastructure built by former more reasonable pragmatic effective Republicans such as Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower.

http://www.ourfuture.org/blog-entry/2010041625/13-ways-90-percent-top-tax-rate-fixes-economy

And in 1956 - this is what the Republican Party's platform under the leadership of Dwight Eisenhower was regarding labor:

Workers have benefited by the progress which has been made in carrying out the programs and principles set forth in the 1952 Republican platform. All workers have gained and unions have grown in strength and responsibility, and have increased their membership by 2 millions.

Furthermore, the process of free collective bargaining has been strengthened by the insistence of this Administration that labor and management settle their differences at the bargaining table without the intervention of the Government. This policy has brought to our country an unprecedented period of labor-management peace and understanding.

From the Republican Party's official platform in the 1956 election!

I'm sure this will be attacked, but it seems like something to think about...

If money raised in taxes were allowed to stay within the states where they should instead of sent to the Federal government, maybe areas would be able to take care of themselves better. Sending all of the tax revenue from each state to Washington is a huge issue. I understand that some tax revenue needs to be sent to Washington for certain issues, but if states were allowed to keep this money maybe they wouldn't be stuck begging for money when disaster strikes.

And please don't make this partisan. This is obviously a highly swayed partisan site, and both sides have there HUGE flaws. (quite one in the same in many respects..... SPEND SPEND SPEND. Take and distribute. WAR. ENTITLEMENTS. whatever it may be).

States could have disaster funds, if they hadn't lowered their state taxes so low.. instead they do the we send money to DC therefore we should get it back plus...:) Besides, 50 states need a federal government. Can you just imagine travelling from one state to the next and needing a passport?

Federal taxes would have to be reduced, and states keep control of their own dollars. State taxes need to lower their taxes because federal taxes got so out of hand. I agree there is a need for a federal government to make sure free travel through the nation (A republic....) and then the need to "regulate interstate commerce" which relates to allowing free trade among the states and not the crap that all politicians use that line for.

IMO, States taxes got lowered so the legislators could get reelected. Then they applied for 'grants' from the Feds to make up the difference ie to build courthouses, etc. They also would buy land for parks getting Fed grants. You would not believe how much one State could 'reach out' and touch the Fed piggybank through their Senators and House of Representative people who also liked to get reelected. :)

That Homeland Security money, went to firefighters and police in States. Lots of cash for protection, equipment and staffing, that States had neglected over the years or pennypinched. Yet it was their state, counties and towns that needed all that extra. Even small towns of 1,400 got some of that cash. It was the biggest handout of cash by Congress since the Great Depression for one area..... Security of the Nation.

Jaaack, I think you are sincere in your observation, but your solution seems simplistic. Some states are blessed with huge natural resources and big cities that generate lots of economic activity. Some states are mainly rural with low populations. Some states, especially in the South, have a legacy of poor dirt, poor people and lots of disasters. Many Western states have most of their land owned by the Federal government. I hope as a nation we are all in this together and will share our bounty.

One of the reasons the states joined into a union was to "promote the general welfare" as stated in the Constitution. It does seem like some, especially those on the far right, want to ignore the purposes of why we made a nation and strike out the "common welfare" part.

The problem is the Constitution was written to sets limits for the government to follow, not set minimums. It is for restraint, not a baseline.

That is the problem with the general welfare clause. It could be used to promote a prison-state nation if it were promoted towards the general welfare of the nation. It is unlikely this would occur (unless of course everyone got extremely dependent on the gov't......) but there are risks associated with something so vague. It's nearly pointless being so qualitative in nature.

Yes, Greg, I am very impressed with Joplin. I would consider moving there. The people have been testifying to the goodness of Christ, even in their tragedy. They sound like very mature Christians, and have humbled me.

I know God is for them, even in the things we can not explain. My heart is broken, but my prayers are for them. I pray God puts up a hedge of protection for them.

God Bless you Greg.

Thank you for the kind words Certified Specialist. I'm not a religious man, but my thoughts have and will be with the people of Joplin, and all the other devastated areas. Not my type of area, im a city boy, and could not imagine living in a small city (smaller, as there are about 50,000 people in the joplin area.) But, the people have impressed me too, and their strength and will to make a better life have shown through this time of disaster. Ive considered signing up to help, but have too many obligations to leave this area.

Dont say this at all really, so feel special (no pun intended), God Bless you too.

We have some misleading statements that make for an awful lot of hate from those who like to practice it. For example...

Congress has still not passed an aid package

Except they don't need to pass an aid package right this second because...
1.

Private charities have stepped in

and 2.

FEMA is providing aid

So let's all calm down a little and stop pretending no aid is coming to these people.

And one more thing for the hatemongers. There is not one thing in the story about religion, so take your hate to a story where it might be relevant. In fact, there are a lot of Christians in those "private charities." For example, Operation Blessing.

Also, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's Rapid Response Team and Samaritan's Purse.

NO, let us not calm down. The Regressives Republicans have targeted the middle class for annihilation. They want the U S to look like Mexico; with a few super rich and abject poverty for all others.

It is the vibrant middle class that's made this country great, why the Republicans want to tear it down is irrational.

As a result of the President declaring MO a federal disaster area, FEMA is sending as much aid as it can, as required under the Stafford Act.

Any additional aid has to be approved by Congress, like what happened during Katrina and Rita, This could be what people are seeing happening here?
